Differences Between Types of Mentor
Until now, the features available to battle mentors and trade mentors were largely the same. However, patch 5.1 introduces the following changes:
- Those who achieve mentor certification as a Disciple of War or Magic can change their online status to “PvE Mentor” or “PvP Mentor.”
- Those who achieve mentor certification as a Disciple of the Land or Hand can change their online status to “Trade Mentor.”
Certification as a trade mentor no longer grants access to Duty Roulette: Mentor.
* Prior to the update, all mentors had the option to change their online status to “Mentor.”

Battle Mentors
As of patch 5.1, the requirements for battle mentor certification change as follows:

Trade Mentors
The requirements for trade mentors remain unchanged from patch 5.0.
Renewing Mentor Certification
Players who are currently mentors must renew their certification within the specified period by meeting the requirements and speaking to one of the Smith NPCs.

Once you have fulfilled the updated requirements, speak to one of the Smiths in Gridania, Limsa Lominsa, or Ul’dah, or at the Hall of the Novice in Western La Noscea (X:28.2 Y:24.4), and select “Apply for Mentor Certification.”
Important
Mentors who do not renew within the specified period will be unable to access the following features:
- Duty Roulette: Mentor
- The ability to change online status to “PvE Mentor,” “PvP Mentor,” or “Trade Mentor.”
They will, however, still be able to participate in the Novice Network chat channel. An icon will indicate that they are a mentor who has yet to renew their certification.

Select a data center
When you log in for the first time, you’ll select a regional data center for the fastest connection! Your choice of data center will determine which Worlds you can choose from after creating your character. You can change your data center anytime.
Create a Character
- Click Start, and New Character.
- Begin by selecting your race, clan, and gender. You can customize your character’s appearance, select their nameday, and a patron deity.
- Select your starting class. Your character’s class is determined by which tool or weapon you’ve equipped. The class you select determines which city-state your character will start in.
- Select your city-state. Your character's starting city is determined by their starting class.
Worlds and Friends
- Select your World (each data center has specific Worlds). If you are planning to play together with friends, note which World and which data center you're on.
- FINAL FANTASY XIV has been divided into several Worlds. Whether they are playing on Windows PC, PlayStation 3, or on PlayStation 4, all players will enjoy the same story and game content in any of the Worlds. However, to play together with friends, all friends must be in the same World.
- You can change Worlds using a transfer service available at the Mog Station. Please note that this transfer requires a fee.
Finish Your Character
